Messy to Methodical: Planning to Solve Your Social Media Stress

When you feel overwhelmed on social media, it’s not because you’re doing anything wrong.
It simply means you need a simpler system or strategy in place. One that shifts you from stressed to capable, and from confused to clear.

So where does all this pressure come from?

⏰ We spend too much time focusing on what others are doing. Worrying about what we might have missed. Questioning whether it’s even worth the time. But the truth is: the time you put into social media is what you get back. The key is understanding where to put your effort.

It’s easy for me to say “relax, it’s simple,” but I know it doesn’t always feel that way. Platforms change constantly. Trends move fast. And social media is rarely the only job on your plate. That’s exactly why a simpler formula is needed.

So, here are my Shaw Socials Solutions to help you feel in control again:

Solution 1: Simplify your foundations

Start by writing down four core themes your business talks about, or wants to talk about regularly.

For example, my four are:

Other theme ideas could include:

Your task:
Which four themes would work for your business? Once these are clear, content planning becomes instantly easier.

Solution 2: Pick a realistic posting rhythm

Grab a paper or digital calendar and block out one to three repeat posting days per week 🗓️

Overwhelm usually comes from trying to do too much. These posting days now become your non-negotiable baseline.

Next, spend a little time planning your month ahead based on those days. Write down rough ideas of what you could post. This removes the last-minute panic and pressure.

And remember, you can still post in the moment. But knowing you already have content ideas lined up for the month ahead is a game-changer for your stress levels. Whew!

Solution 3: Batch Create your writing and visuals separately

Trying to do everything in one sitting is a fast track to burnout 🔥

Instead:

  • Spend 1–2 days writing captions

  • Spend 1–2 days creating or gathering visuals

  • Spend 1 day scheduling everything

Same workload. Far less stress.

Now it’s your turn

If you want to prove to yourself that you’re committed to giving this process a go, send me a photo of your next month’s content calendar on Instagram, Facebook or LinkedIn- I’d love to see it!
